Blaník Mountain

Climb to the top of the legendary mountain, where a mythical national treasure lies hidden. From the observation tower, enjoy sweeping views of the protected landscape, with a glimpse of the peak of nearby Malý Blaník.

Velký Blaník, shrouded in legend, stands tall as a protector of the Czech lands. Hike to the top of the wooden lookout tower, where breathtaking views and a mystical atmosphere await. As you climb, you’ll immerse yourself in a landscape that has inspired poets, pilgrims, and history lovers for centuries.

A symbol of hope and victory for the Czech people, Velký Blaník is steeped in legend. Along the way, an educational trail with 14 stops will guide you through its rich natural and cultural history. Interactive features keep young adventurers engaged, making this hike enjoyable for all ages.

Before reaching the summit at 638 meters, take time to share the tale of the Blaník Knights, who, according to legend, rest within the mountain, ready to rise and defend the nation when called upon. A short detour will bring you to Veřejova Rock, the legendary resting place of the brave warriors.

  • Interesting fact: Over the centuries, the legend of the Blaník Knights evolved, gaining a stronger patriotic tone after 1848, symbolizing the awakening of a dormant nation. The theme was embraced by artists like playwrights Václav Kliment Klicpera and Josef Kajetán Tyl, and even became part of Bedřich Smetana’s symphonic poem Blaník from his From My Homeland cycle. The story of the sleeping army also inspired many visual and literary works throughout history.

At the summit, you’ll find a 29.5-meter wooden lookout tower, built by the Czech Tourist Club in 1941 to replace its weathered predecessor. End your journey at the Blaník Nature Center near Krasovice. The exhibits offer a glimpse into the natural, geological, and cultural treasures of the Podblanicko region, with plenty of interactive elements for kids to enjoy. While you’re there, you can quench your thirst and satisfy your hunger with tasty refreshments, all while being guided by the Blaník Knight mascot!
