Explore the life and work of the author of the legendary novel *The Mammoth Hunters*. The museum in Lobč showcases Štorch's versatility, depicting him as a man of many talents and interests.
Eduard Štorch was not only a writer but also a passionate archaeologist and a successful educator, known for his progressive and unique project, the Children’s Farm. The Lobeč Museum thoroughly documents all stages of his life, featuring numerous exhibits. You’ll be captivated by the models of prehistoric dwellings and the creative depiction of a mammoth hunt.
The writer is buried in the small village of Lobeč, located on the edge of the Kokořínsko – Máchův kraj Protected Landscape Area. In his honor, a museum was established in 2010 in the former village school. The exhibition is divided into two main sections: the first presents Eduard Štorch as a progressive educator, researcher, archaeologist, and writer, while the second focuses on his masterpiece, The Mammoth Hunters, and his final novel set in Lobeč, Minehava.
Lobeč may be a small village, but besides the museum, there’s another highlight: the Lobeč Steam-Powered Brewery. After an extensive renovation, it’s now one of the finest examples of historic breweries in the Czech Republic. The brewery also features a charming restaurant with excellent beer and even offers accommodations. If you have some extra time and energy, consider a walk to the Vrátno windmill or take in the views of Máchův kraj from the lookout tower on Vrátenská hora.
