Visit the animals that, due to their disabilities, are unable to return to the wild. Many of them have found a second home at ParaZOO and are thriving here exceptionally well.
They’ve faced tough circumstances or are non-native species that could harm local wildlife. Yet, at the Vlašim ParaZOO, these animals are given a warm welcome, and despite being overlooked elsewhere, they remain just as captivating. Younger visitors can enjoy seeing forty animals, along with themed souvenirs and toys, while older ones can explore educational exhibits.
ParaZOO in Vlašim was founded in 2012 in the garden of the Podblanické Eco-Center, on the site of a former Wildlife Rescue Station. The station, now located in nearby Pavlovice, takes in animals and provides them with expert care. For those unable to return to the wild, ParaZOO offers a true sanctuary. Thanks to the excellent care they receive, many animals here live to an impressive old age.
So, who lives at ParaZOO? Hedgehogs, martens, otters, and even a raccoon dog that wandered all the way from Asia to the Czech Republic. Among the birds, there’s a late-hatched black stork left behind when its parents migrated south, along with owls, an eagle, and the intriguingly named European honey buzzard. The only reptile resident is the non-native red-eared slider turtle.
The next day, be sure to take a leisurely stroll through the stunning castle park, filled with charming features like the Chinese Pavilion, the Venetian Well, and the Vlašim Gate. A nature trail will lead you through the picturesque valley of the Blanice River. If you get hungry, stop by the restaurant U Blanických Rytířů at the Domašín Gate, which offers year-round dining and an outdoor terrace with a playground for kids. From May to September, you can also visit the snack bar at the Znosim Gate for delicious desserts and specialty coffee.
