Once home to Franciscan monks, the Votice Monastery now welcomes visitors eager to explore its rich history and vibrant cultural scene. With exhibitions, concerts, and events, the monastery continues to honor its historic legacy.
According to legend, Count Sezima of Vrba promised to build a monastery if God granted him a son. In 1627, the monastery was built at the spot where a deer laid down, fulfilling his vow. The monks, living simply as St. Francis intended, helped the sick and poor, and became known for their herbal remedies.
Today, the monastery houses the Votice Regional Museum, which showcases local history, art, and exhibits like vintage carriages and dolls, along with seasonal displays and cultural events.
