While exploring the Land of Blaník Knights, be sure to visit the castle in Zruč nad Sázavou! This neo-Gothic gem, set in an English park, hides many secrets to discover during a tour or over coffee in the castle café.
The castle features an interactive exhibition, a scenic nature trail through the park, and many attractions for younger visitors. As you explore, you’ll not only step into the past but also enjoy views of the serene Sázava River.
Over the centuries, the estate has undergone significant transformations. Originally a medieval fortress, it evolved into a Baroque and Renaissance residence, becoming a cultural hub. It was home to the Kolowrat and Schebek families. A devastating fire in 1781 destroyed much of the castle, including valuable documents, furniture, and Renaissance artwork. In the 19th century, the castle was rebuilt in a romantic neo-Gothic style, with turrets and battlements. The remnants of the original fortifications are beautifully integrated into the well-preserved park.
Step into history as you tour Zruč Castle’s southern wing. Explore rooms in various styles—antique, baroque, and art nouveau—then visit the family chapel. From the Kolowrat Tower, enjoy stunning views of the castle and the old town. Kids can enjoy puzzles, historical tasks, and even a secret wall to climb.
The adventure continues in the castle’s English park, perfect for picnics and family outings. The medieval-themed educational trail lets kids try archery, ax throwing, and fishing, with rewards for brave knights. For family fun, don’t miss the nearby playground with a ball track, bridges, and tunnels. The castle’s attic also features the World of Bricks and Dolls, where both kids and adults can enjoy a playful journey.
If you’ve satisfied your cultural cravings but feel your stomach growling, head to Hellas Café for a fragrant coffee, homemade cake, or a sandwich in a cozy atmosphere. Still hungry for more adventure? Drive just 8 km to the Water House for more fun and fascinating exhibits about water. Or, explore the Bee World to uncover the mysteries of bees and honey.
