Zvířetice Castle Ruin
The golden age of the château was the Baroque period, however, its noble owners subsequently relocated to other manors, and the importance of this residence entered into a decline.
This Gothic castle, which was gradually rebuilt into a Renaissance château with Baroque elements, has had its fair share of ups and downs, however, its story has a happy ending – a recent virtual graphics project has breathed new life into this unique landmark and ensured that this noble residence, whose origins date back to the middle ages, will never be forgotten.
It was founded in 1287 as a Gothic stronghold and rebuilt in the 16th century into a Renaissance château. The golden age of the château was the Baroque period, however, its noble owners subsequently relocated to other manors, and the importance of this residence entered into a decline.
For a long time the abandoned structure was of little interest to anybody, however, in the 19th century the area became a popular destination among hikers and artists seeking inspiration. The mysterious ruins even piqued the interest of one of the most famous Czech poets, Karel Hynek Mácha. Thanks to a modern virtual project, it is now possible to see Zvířetice the way it looked back in its greatest glory days.
