The extensive railway museum, playful moments on the woodland playground, and a stroll through nature to the ancient hillfort make Lužná an ideal destination for everyone.
Marvel at steam locomotives at the Lužná u Rakovníka Railway Museum, or start your adventure by exploring the natural beauty along the educational trail Louštín. On an undemanding circular route through the forest, you’ll encounter just one ascent to the former hillfort, making it manageable even with children. Additionally, kids can have some fun right at the beginning of the trail on the playground near Sládkův Kříž. The excursion concludes amidst dozens of beautiful locomotives and trains, adding the perfect finishing touch.
The Louštín educational trail begins after Lužná II at the Sládkův Kříž signpost, offering a shaded playground and resting spot. Follow the blue trail along the Punčoška pond for a romantic picnic—remember to bring your own snacks.
Proceed to the crossroads, take the red trail for a moderate climb, and ascend to the Louštín hill, once a prehistoric hillfort. Enjoy panoramic views from a wooden gazebo. Connect to the yellow trail at the crossroads to return to the Lužná u Rakovníka Railway Museum.
Exploring the railway museum near Lužná station isn’t just a treat for train enthusiasts; it captivates anyone with a penchant for “iron horses.” With the country’s most extensive collection of steam locomotives—over 40 in total, spanning narrow-gauge to freight and express trains—the museum showcases not only steam classics but also modern counterparts like electric pantographs, beloved excursion railcars, and dining and postal cars. An exhibition standout is President Masaryk’s saloon car, while kids can revel in the model railway and the playground.
