Moldau to Elbe: A Bike Adventure

Cycle the Moldau River to where it merges with the Elbe. This easy, longer route features many interesting stops, including a multimedia archaeological exhibition at the start.

Hop on your bike and follow the Moldau River to prehistoric trails, romantic castles, and Antonín Dvořák’s birthplace. No need to pack snacks—there are plenty of refreshment stops along the way!

Your day of cycling and adventure begins in Roztoky near Prague, where you can visit the Central Bohemian Museum. Enjoy the beautiful castle grounds and take an interactive journey through the ages at the Archevita exhibition.

  • Interesting fact: The archaeological exhibition showcases replicas of prehistoric dwellings, authentic artifacts, and engaging video mapping. Young visitors will love the playful, interactive elements!

Biking isn’t your only mode of transport on this route. Enjoy a ferry ride that takes you across the Moldau to Klecánky. From there, you’ll follow an easy riverside path to Kralupy, where you’ll return to the right bank via the T. G. Masaryk Bridge.

As you rise above the treetops, the ornate facade of the Renaissance chateau in Nelahozeves comes into view, marking the seat of the influential Lobkowicz family. You can also visit Antonín Dvořák’s birthplace, where you’ll catch a glimpse of the childhood of one of history’s greatest composers. Listen closely to the surrounding sounds, and you might discover the inspiration behind his music.

History enthusiasts can take a short detour to the Veltrusy hunting lodge, nestled within a vast landscaped park. This romantic setting has long served as a peaceful retreat for the nobility, allowing you to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

  • Tip for you: If your energy starts to wane towards the end of the route, recharge with a stop at the family-run Café Na Výsluní in Vraňany. Enjoy a coffee break and indulge in delicious homemade desserts to lift your spirits!

You’ll discover plenty of interesting stops along this cycling route, including the Zelčín Zoopark, where you can get up close with animals in several interactive enclosures—perfect for the whole family.

As you reach the confluence of our two major rivers, you’ll be greeted by the royal town of Mělník. To celebrate the end of your ride, enjoy a glass of locally produced wine from the sun-soaked slopes or savor craft beer from the Němý Medvěd microbrewery.
