Rock Towns of Kokořínsko

The rock towns of Kokořínsko mesmerize with their stunning formations and challenging terrain. Navigate winding paths and steep steps as you explore the rocks!

This trail takes you through the stone labyrinths hidden in the Kokořínsko forests. Along the way, you’ll explore two rock towns and search for clues in the appearance of some rock towers to uncover the origins of their names.

The challenging circular route begins in the town of Mšeno. The Cinibulkova Hiking Trail, named after the tourism advocate Josef Cinibuleka, starts at the Městské lázně swimming pool, notable for its First Republic art deco design and clear, cool water from a rock spring.

From there, the yellow hiking trail takes you to the Prolezovačky rock formation. This complex of rocks features naturally formed hollows linked by narrow passages.

  • Interesting fact: Just a short distance away, you can explore a freely accessible cave. During the Thirty Years’ War, valuable items and paintings from the area were hidden here to protect them from the Swedish troops. This is how the cave earned its name—Obraznice Cave.

As you continue, you’ll encounter forest trails, rocky outcrops, and lookout points, with the highlight being the rock town of Bludiště. Here, narrow gorges, passages, and rock towers are so closely packed that it’s easy to get lost. Some areas are challenging, requiring wooden ladders and chains, so it’s best to avoid bringing small children or those with mobility limitations.

In the second half of the trek, you’ll find Tutanchamon, often bustling with climbers. This striking rock formation has eight climbing routes, but you can also reach the top via a wooden ladder. With a little imagination, you might even see the shape of the ancient Egyptian ruler in the rock.

Before finishing your journey, don’t miss Švédský val and Průsečná skála, built by Swedish forces during the Thirty Years’ War, as well as the uniquely named formations Obří hlava— The Giant Head and Žába— The Frog.

At the end of your trip, take a refreshing dip in the elegant Městské lázně swimming pool on the outskirts of Mšeno. During the summer, you’ll feel as though you’ve stepped back into the First Republic era.
