The soothing calm of the deep forests in the Brdy Protected Landscape Area is enhanced by the welcoming atmosphere of the pilgrimage site Skalka.
The Hřebeny Nature Park is the perfect escape from the city. This moderately challenging circular route takes you from the noble castle through the idyllic Skalka pilgrimage site to the tranquility of the forests in the Brdy Protected Landscape Area.
Begin your journey at the square in Mníšek pod Brdy, where the nearby Mníšek pod Brdy Château is a must-visit. Curious about the daily life of the lower nobility during the early days of the First Republic? Explore several guided tours showcasing the representative salons and private rooms of the last owners, as if they had just stepped out.
From the castle, ascend the green hiking trail of the educational path, leading you to the edge of the Hřebeny mountains. The baroque pilgrimage site of Skalka, with its enchanting views of the castle and surrounding landscape, will welcome you with its charming atmosphere.
Keep in mind that the route to Skalka features a steep ascent along forest paths, making it unsuitable for strollers. Alternatively, you can easily reach Skalka via a small detour along the asphalt road from Řevnická Street.
The tranquility you’ve found at the pilgrimage site will stay with you throughout your journey, which showcases a variety of paths and hiking trails in different colors. Starting from Skalka, follow the red Hřebenová Trail to the Červený Kříž junction. Then, continue along the yellow and blue trails to the Pod Strážným junction. About two-thirds of the way, you’ll face a steady ascent on the green trail that leads you back to Skalka.
As you explore the forests, consider taking a few short detours. One option is to hike to the peak of Babka, where you can enjoy its fascinating rocky summit and breathtaking panoramic views. Alternatively, you might want to visit the tramps’ settlement of El Paso, located around a pond created by a flooded quarry. Just remember to respect the privacy of the residents during your visit.
