Ski resort Monínec

On the very border of Central and South Bohemia lies the ski resort Monínec, where skiers and snowboarders can have fun, even in temperatures above zero.

Monínec is an ideal place for skiing even during warm winters without snow. Thanks to the special Snowfactory technology, which is known mainly from Alpine resorts, they can produce snow here even at temperatures of 15 °C above zero. Cross-country skiers will also enjoy the natural snow, for which there are tens of kilometres of cross-country skiing trails in the area. And you really don’t have to worry about snow; this area is called Czech Siberia for a reason.

We don’t have extremely high mountains in Central Bohemia, but skiers can still find a great place with perfect facilities. The ski slopes at Monínec are open daily in the winter season, and after dark a 1.2 km long illuminated ski slope beckons you to ski, with a four-seat chairlift taking you to the top. There are also facilities with complete equipment for winter sports including rental and service, school slopes with moving carpet-like ski tows and ski schools for teaching children and adults. You can replenish your energy in the self-service Alpine-style restaurant right at the foot of the slopes.

  • Interesting fact: The oldest Czech post office from the middle of the 19th century stands right at the exit of the cable car. It was saved by Tomáš Trnka from the top of our highest mountain Sněžka, where it was threatened with destruction and replacement by a new post office.

Although you will find Monínec on the Javorová skála in the heart of Czech Siberia, there is fun all year round. There are many fun attractions such as a bike park, a maxi-slide, a giant ball ride and a rope park. You can swim in the natural swimming pool Pilský rybník and in the outdoor heated pool under the hotel Monínec. In addition, you can play a water battle on the pond thanks to special electric boats.

  • Tip for you: Stay in the resort and enjoy a multi-day holiday. Hotel Monínec with a wellness centre is open all year round. There is also the Nová Javorka accommodation, Čertovka traditional cottage or Monínec apartments in the lower part of the resort.
Where to head next?

And if you are going to be in Monínec for several days, how about exploring the border of Central and South Bohemia in more detail? The vast area from Tábor to Sedlčany is called Toulava. And the area is so beautiful, it will draw you in for hours of wandering. You can head out on dozens of marked trails that will take you to the Vltava lookout points, to lookout towers or along the Lužnice River. In Počepice you can buy honey gingerbread and in the Vysoký Chlumec open-air museum you can see how people used to live in the Central Povltaví region.
