Bike Trips

Around Kladno in the Footsteps of Mining Activity

A bike tour around the largest town in Central Bohemia will take you in the footsteps of miners and industrial monuments.

Kladno, the town of coal and iron, grew up on the mining industry. Explore the town and its surroundings on an easy route along mostly paved roads.

Start from Kladno train station bike trail through the Kročehlavy housing estate in Kladno to the circular bike trail 0017, which will take you in the footsteps of the Kladno mines. You cannot miss Vrapice, where intensive mining in the Kladno district began thanks to the discovery of coal in 1772 . Minor detours along the route will take you to the remains of the former Ludmila and Marie Antonie mines .

  • Tip for you: It is said that a mole was the finder of the coal, which inspired Zdeněk Miler, a native of Kladno, to create Krteček. Make your trip even more interesting with a visit to the Kladno château with an exhibition dedicated to a fairy tale character and a simulated mine shaft.

From Ferdinandka, take a detour to the Čabárna water park with a Japanese garden. Or continue along trail 0017 to Mayrau Mining Museum. Almost everything here looks like it did in 1997, when the last miners left the mine. Some of them have remained on “Mayrovka” to this day as guides.

The end of the route will lead you through the woods to Kamenné Žehrovice with the former Wannieck mine. Behind the fence of the complex stands a preserved, but dilapidated engine room, which belongs among the architectural jewels of the Kladno industrial area. From the Sletiště sports complex, it will then be just a short walk back to the Kladno train station .
