Discover the Antonín Dvořák Memorial in Vysoká near Příbram, where the maestro spent his summers, finding inspiration in the beautiful surroundings. In letters to friends, he expressed, “I feel very happy here.”
Visit the Antonín Dvořák Memorial tep into the world of Rusalka in the local deep forests and meadows. Explore Dvořák’s favorite park spots boasting 1,500 trees, a romantic pond, a birch gazebo, and the former hunting lodge, Sládkovna. This lodge, now a café, serves Brdy coffee and local treats. Nearby, find Dvořák’s cherished Rusalka’s Pond with a memorial stone.
The castle building of the memorial hosts a permanent exhibition introducing the original owners, Count Václav Robert Kounic and his wife Josefína, a notable Prague actress. It also features the screening of the musical documentary Dvořák in Vysoká.
Dvořák often enjoyed walks to the nearby pilgrimage place Holy Mountain. Following in his footsteps, venture further in Central Bohemia, perhaps to his birthplace in Nelahozeves, where you can visit another memorial directly in Dvořák’s childhood home. However, if you crave something different, stop by the Mining Museum in Příbram, just a few kilometers from Vysoká.
